Motivating your staff - and yourself!

There is a bewildering amount of literature on the subject of motivation. In this module, we will look at what we as academic managers can do to motivate our staff, and also consider what could demotivate people. We will look at some of the more influential theories on the topic, and explore together a range of practical strategies we can adopt.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this module you will:

• Have examined what you understand motivation is, and what motivates you as an academic manager

• Have identified specific staff members whom you feel have a problem with motivation, and have explored a range of strategies for dealing with them

• Have explored theories of motivation and discussed these with your colleagues and tutor

• Have considered the scope of a manager's role in staff motivation

• Have discussed and examined what can demotivate staff members in your organisation

• Have acquired a range of practical strategies you can utilise to help motivate your staff

Practical information:

Please note that course participants will need to be able to dedicate 4 - 5 hours to work on the Pre-module Orientation Course before the actual training module starts. Please note that we cannot guarantee that all modules will run. Module fees are not refundable or transferable.

All applications and payments must be finalized at least a week before the module start dates. Applications which come in less than a week before will be deferred to the next available intake date for the module.
